July 2024 · 3 minute read

Barbora Krejcikova has been an excellent player in all disciplines of the sport having claimed Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Czech tennis professional Barbora Krejcikova has been on song during the grass swing, beating several big players, including Elena Rybakina, to reach her first final at the Wimbledon Championships.

She has had a good 2024 season so far. She began the year by reaching her first Grand Slam quarterfinal in two years at the Australian Open. However, that was followed by a back injury and illness which forced her to skip the first four WTA 1000 events of the year.

She regained her form during the grass swing, reaching the quarterfinals in Eastbourne. At Wimbledon, Krejcikova came through a tough match with Veronika Kudermetova in the opening round before winning her next four matches (against Katie Volynets, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Danielle Collins, and Jelena Ostapenko) in straight sets. She then caused an upset in the semifinals, coming from a set down to defeat 2022 champion Elena Rybakina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach her first final of the season.

A lot of credit goes to the coach for turning a player into a champion and it is no different inKrejcikova’s case. The Czech has been lucky enough to have an outstanding coach and a mentor. So let’s know who has guided her to the final at Wimbledon 2024.

Who is Barbora Krejcikova’s current coach?

The current coach of Krejcikova is Pavel Motl, a former Czech professional player. Though Kovacka hasn’t found the same success as his student, he surely is making amends by realizing his dreams through coaching her compatriot.

Pavel, who has known Krejcikova since childhood, joined her team after the departure of her former coach Ales Kartus. He first met Krejcikova during a children’s tournament, trained together, and kept in touch even when they weren’t working together.

He studied psychology and sports management at the American University of Tennessee and has worked with her since August last year. As a coach, he has made an impact, taking Krejcikova to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and the final at Wimbledon, among others.

Who has coached Barbora Krejcikova so far in her career?

Before Pavel Motl, Barbora Krejcikova was coached by Ales Kartus and Petr Kovacka. They helped her find her strengths, notably in the doubles.

Before then, Jana Novotna, a WTA legend, coached and mentored Krejcikova. Novotna in her playing days won a whopping 17 Grand Slam trophies, which included a singles Wimbledon title in 1998, 12 women’s doubles titles, and 4 mixed doubles titles.

Novotna had a career-high singles ranking of No.2 which she achieved in 1997 while she remained in the numero uno position in the women’s doubles category for 67 successive weeks. Novotna, unfortunately, died in 2017.
