A pop group is often considered a family to their fans, even going so far as to name their fandom with a particular nickname, such as Army for BTS, Blinks for Blackpink, and Carats for SEVENTEEN.
Speaking of SEVENTEEN, This is a Korean boy band that performs under Pledis Entertainment and has been active since 2015 despite being on hiatus a couple of times.
Apparently, SEVENTEEN’S leader, Choi Seung-cheol, also popularly known as S. Coups, has recently suffered a knee injury and had to go on a hiatus to recover and rejoin the group as soon as possible.
What Happened to S. Coups?
As stated above, the Korean rapper has suffered a knee injury as he had torn his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) while shooting a SEVENTEEN variety episode. Following the injury, the artist didn’t reveal the extent of the situation immediately so as not to worry the fans.
However, Pledis Entertainment issued a public statement indicating that S. Coups won’t be taking part in further activities of the band for the time being. The statement reads as follows:
“The artist is receiving necessary medical treatment prior to the surgery as recommended by medical staff and will undergo surgery as soon as possible. We will provide updates on the progression of his treatment and rehabilitation schedule at a later time.”
Furthermore, the rapper reassured the fans regarding the injury and why they shouldn’t be worried about his current situation. He said,
“I was having fun and getting immersed while filming, so I was surprised at first when I suddenly got hurt, I was brought to the hospital and treated right away so don’t worry too much. I’m sad because there are a lot of big things planned, but I think the first thing is to recover as soon as possible to show carats a great stage for now.”
“I’ll focus on recovering and put my treatment and rehabilitation as the top priority. I feel sorry towards members who prepared with me and to carats. Carats, don’t worry too much; I’ll have good surgery, eat well, and say hi from time to time while taking care of my condition.”
S. Coups Attends SEVENTEEN’S Concert in Japan
Although suffering from a knee injury and is in a situation where he cannot walk without effort, S. Coups showed a heartwarming gesture on September 5, 2023. The band departed from South Korea for Japan on September 4, 2023.
However, as their concert was being held in Japan the next day, S. Coups was seen at Gimpo International Airport, and he later traveled to Japan in order to support the band.
While it wouldn’t have been so special, the fact that he was still in his wheelchair and despite suffering from the injury, he wanted to be there for their boys, even if he couldn’t perform on the stage like usual, moved the fans immensely.
Furthermore, even the members of SEVENTEEN were unaware of his motive to support them from behind the stage, as J. Coups didn’t inform them beforehand.
This gesture truly instilled a great deal of admiration in his fans as well as worry that he won’t recover fast enough if he keeps attending their concerts. SEVENTEEN’S tour will take place in multiple locations across Japan, including Osaka, Tokyo, Saitama, Aichi, and Fukuoka.
So, what do you think about J. Coups’ selfless gesture? Are you waiting for his return to the band?
